He Guirui’s paintings are an uplifting record of the mystery of life, understood through diligence and care and rendered with finely developed technique. Vivid brush strokes across the canvas record her own movements and convey both the lasting imprint and impermanence of action. The line of contact that bisects these canvases, like a frontier, or a cellular membrane, is plainly apparent yet inscrutable, dissolving in washes of color where trajectories merge.
He Guirui graduated from the Guangzhou Academy of Art in 2002. She is currently based in Guangzhou, China and the Netherlands.
Artist’s statement: “Through simple artistic forms I attempt to capture the experience of a year inside of a day, the feelings of a season inside of a moment…My person, my painting and my environment meet, and regardless of whether through intellectual, emotional or visual engagement, there is a collision with truth about the universe. A kind of enlightenment occurs that is both cause and effect of opening up.”
